LIKE a phoenix from the flames a Blackburn business has gone from bust to boom - earning an award nomination in the process.

Darwen Terracotta was formed in 2015 after Shaws of Darwen closed it architectural division.

Former employees came together to establish Darwen Terracotta to ensure skills and jobs were not lost in the area.

Since then the firm has gone from strength to strength and now employs 32 people and has architectural contracts across the country.

Jon Wilson, director, said that the firm were delighted with the Made in Blackburn and Darwen Manufacturing Award nomination.

He said: "It is a great positive story. When Shaws offered redundancy we decided to come together and form a new company.

"We drew up a business plan, sought investment and it has just taken off from there. We have now worked on a number of prestigious projects in Europe, North America and Canada."
