BUSINESSES in East Lancashire which supply products and services to Muslims are being urged to tap into the global boom in halal tourism.

Tourism experts say the rise of Muslim travellers across the world could be worth millions to UK companies and create a route to do business on an international level.

Europe is hosting the Halal Tourism Conference next month and figures show the halal tourism sector was worth £84 billion last year.

Director of organisers CM Media, Tasneem Mahmood, who are organising the event, said halal tourism provides excellent opportunities for East Lancashire businesses, especially in food and drink, tourism and finance. She said: “We know a number of strong businesses within Blackburn which provide products and services to Muslims.

“The tourism sector across the world is now looking at the value of the Muslim customers increasing their leisure spend.

“In Europe alone there are so many countries who want to cater for the Muslim market, which is a great opportunity on the doorstep of Blackburn companies.”
