Threat to Ramsbottom chocolate fest funding

RAMSBOTTOM’S famous chocolate festival could see its council funding slashed.

Bury Council is reviewing its role in ‘destination management’ in the borough, which means leisure and tourism budgets are under threat. The chocolate festival attracted 27,000 visitors to the area this year.

The council currently spends £243,000 annually supporting, and promoting, tourism. It has set itself a target to save £89,000 in this financial year.

In a blog post, Ramsbottom councillor Ian Bevan said: “The fantastic work by local traders and Ramsbottom Business Group to promote the town, and bring in the tourist trade, is clearly under threat from these proposals.”
