Haslingden attacker left mum terrified

A LOUT who has repeatedly targeted his mum when he is drunk has won his freedom, four months after his latest outburst.

Anthony Halstead, 29, grabbed Janet Halstead by the throat, spat at her, threatened to put her windows in and told her: "I'm going to do you in."

Halstead, who had set about damaging the victim's home, left his mother so terrified that she thought her son would kill her, Burnley Crown Court heard.

The hearing was told Halstead, who has picked on his mother before, had a record for assault and damage and had already been given an alcohol treatment programme.

A judge warned him if he didn't get his act together he could end up behind bars for years.

The defendant, of Birch Avenue, Haslingden, admitted two counts of common assault, damage and threatening to cause damage. He was given a six-month jail term, has served the equivalent of eight months on remand and was immediately released from custody.
