Burnley rock band Chumbawamba plan farewell tour

A SERIES of gigs have been arranged across Europe so a Burnley rock band can bring the curtain down on their 30-year career.

Last July lead guitarist Boff Whalley announced that Chumbawamba, formed in the town in 1982, would be calling it a day.

But the band has announced plans to celebrate their own ‘Day of the Dead’ with a three-date run in Leeds, Berlin and Oslo.

In their early days the band played in squats before securing a number two hit with Tubthumping in 1997.

Ex-singer Danbert Nobacon, real name Nigel Hunter, and Alice Nutter, were among the other Burnley mainstays in the group.

The band has also been booked to appear at the Ingleton Folk Festival, near Carnforth, on October 6.

Leeds City Varieties Music Hall will host the first farewell gig on October 31, with follow-ups in Berlin’s Passionkirche and Blitz in Oslo on November 2 and 3 respectively.

Isn't that venue in Leeds where "The Good Old Days" used to be broadcast from by the BBC with that twunt in a red British army uniform and glued-on handlebar moustache and stupid bell-boy hat used to shout in between every act? Nothing like calling it a day whilst you're still at the top!
