Awards for Excellence ceremony held for Burnley outstanding youngsters

OUTSTANDING students celebrated their success with their families and special guests at an awards event.
Burnley College Sixth Form Centre’s Awards for Excellence event featured live performances from performing arts students, with Hayley Reid singing I’ll Give my Life for You from Miss Saigon, and a modern interpretation of Theseus and the Minotaur by Stephen Rostron and Becky Parnell.
Students invited to the awards ceremony had achieved A* and A grades in their A-Levels or straight grades in advanced vocational programmes.
Many of them have now progressed to some of the country’s leading universities.
Winners at the event included student ambassador Gemma Fisk, a former pupil of Shuttleworth College .
She has now progressed to the University of York to study for a degree in social and political sciences.
Mikala Davidson, a former pupil of St John Fisher and St Thomas More Catholic Humanities College will begin a degree in international business management at the University of Manchester later this month.
Freddie Shaw, who went to Accrington Academy, is to study Mathematics at Birmingham University and former Alder Grange pupil Jasmine Ginty will read law at the University of York.
The event was also attended by a number of invited guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, headteachers from high schools, Burnley employers and county and borough councillors.
Principal Hugh Bramwell said: “The Awards for Excellence event is a celebration of the outstanding achievements of our students across the college’s full range of advanced level programmes and a chance for us to reflect on an exciting year for the college.”
