Flooding relief in Rossendale
2:15pm Friday 6th July 2012 in News
WITH a month’s worth of rainfall forecast to fall in just 36 hours, businesses and residents were on flood standby today.
However, fire crews say that the weather this morning has not been as bad as anticipated.
Bacup fire crews were called to flooding in the basement of the Swan Pub in Market Street, Bacup, at around 11am.
The basement was around 5ft deep in water and rising.
Crews pumped the water out of the property and stemmed the flow.
They had not been called to any further incidents that morning.
A Rossendale Council spokeswoman said: “When it came down earlier, it came down hard and we are watching the water levels.
“We have staff out keeping an eye on things and there is a lot of water about but at the moment we are okay.”
