Lancashire Constabulary leading the way with forensics
2:00pm Friday 6th July 2012 in News
POLICE forces from across the country attended an open day to learn how Lancashire Constabulary is leading the way with its forensic laboratories.
The constabulary is a national lead when it comes to providing in-house services from within its scientific support department; enabling investigations to be carried out more effectively while reducing costs to the force.
The force’s department includes crime scene investigation (CSI), fingerprint analysis, forensic analysis and digital forensics.
The department already has international quality standard for two specific forensic areas and has been further recommended for a third.
The fingerprint laboratory is to be assessed in September.
Previously, many of the analyses would have been carried out by external service providers, at an increased cost.
However, the department can now create full statements for use as evidence in court.
As a result, Lancashire Constabulary has received a large number of visit requests from its counterparts across the country, who are keen to set up their own accredited services.
