Tragic Rawtenstall student to be laid to rest

THE FAMILY of tragic Rossendale teenager Ryan Anderton will finally lay him to rest on Monday.

The 18-year-old Burnley College student was found dead in Kay Street in Rawtenstall on February 11.

The funeral service, which will be held at Burnley Crematorium, comes after officers decided to wind-down their investigations and passed their findings on to the coroner.

An inquest will now take place in September.

Officers in the Valley have issued multiple appeals for information and released CCTV footage of Ryan’s last movements. They say that the case will be re-opened if new information comes to light.

His uncle Simon Anderton, a lorry driver from Loveclough, said the family was relieved to have Ryan back but disappointed at delays in the investigation.

He said: “The communication from the Crown Prosecution Service was really poor. Obviously we’re glad to have Ryan back and to be able to give him a funeral now but we’re slightly disappointed at how we’ve been treated.”

The former Alder Grange High School pupil had been on a night out with friends and police believe he had been with two men in an empty flat above a shop.

His injuries were consistent with falling from a height but a post-mortem examination was unable to conclusively say how he died.

The two men, aged 25 and 32, were arrested by police after his body was found but both were then released without charge.
