Revamp for Blackburn car dealership

A BLACKBURN car dealership is to undergo a £1million expansion following the closure of its Burnley site.

The Lookers Volkswagen garage, in Barracks Road, Burnley, closed last week and 16 staff have been transferred to the Blackburn branch, which is being given a refit.

Bosses said the work, which starts in July, will include a 17 car showroom, more used car display and additional service work bays. It may also lead to further jobs at the site in Trident Way, Whitebirk. Paul Wilkinson, franchise director, said the decision to close Lookers’ Burnley site was made after much consideration, and with the full support of Volkswagen UK. He went on: “While it is obviously sad to close any business, the closure is linked to the expansion of our facilities in Blackburn which, we believe, will enable us to offer an even greater level of choice and service to all of our customers in the West Pennines area.

“We are conscious, however, that the move may create additional travelling for some of our customers and so we are expanding the number of courtesy cars that we have available, extending our collection and delivery services and introducing a shuttle service, back to Burnley, to try to minimise any inconvenience.”
