Burnley FC chairman Barry Kilby reveals he is fighting cancer

STEPPING DOWN Barry Kilby STEPPING DOWN Barry Kilby

BURNLEY chairman Barry Kilby has revealed he is stepping down from the role after 13 years because he is fighting cancer.

The 62-year-old learned of his illness in November and has already begun treatment.

He admitted it was with sadness that he has decided to relinquish his chairmanship duties at the end of May, but he said he felt it was the right thing to do for himself and the club.

“I've got cancer and that's something I've got to deal with. That was the real reason why I've decided to step down,” said Kilby, who confirmed he will retain his shares and place on the board.

“It will take my time up with the treatment I'll have to do and I think it's right that somebody now comes in and takes over.

“I've known roughly since November and through December.

“I've given it some thought, and obviously it will change things in my life, so now is the time to step down.

“It's a practical thing as much as anything.

“I've got to deal with that and I don't think I can do it simultaneously with being chairman of Burnley Football Club.

“That's the real reason why I will step down at the end of the season.”

Good luck Barry, thanks for everything and here's hoping you win this particular battle against your toughest opponent.
You have been an outstandin chairman and seen the club from the brink of the bottom division to the Premier League.
Your legacy at Turf Moor will live on for generations

You've been a great chairman Barry and you have certainly left the club better off than when you found it.

I hope we can find another honourable chairman to continue your legacy.

I said it when he announced his reirement and I'll say it again "THANK YOU Mr. Kilby for your time, devotion and belief in BFC. You are a true genteman and I wish you all success in this your latest fight"

NOW YOU CLARET FANS AND THE TEAM!!!!!

Let's all give him the biggest incentive he could wish for. Get behind him, get behind the team and roar them upwards. To all the team and management give it 200% because we never had less from Mr. Kilby (I say Mr. Kilby out of respect). What better reward for his efforts than for him to be able to bask in the sunshine of the Premier once more - Let's hear for him "Come on you Clarets" (just as we shouted at Wembley)

I wish B.K. well in his fight against cancer. However I repeat what I have allways said, he is a man with short arms and deep pockects. Let's hope his successor will spend to recuperate. Best wishes to him.

I've met Barry Kilby a couple of times. He was a true gentleman and listened intently to what I said, despite me not being anybody of any importance as such. He is a Lancastrian, a Stalwart, an Officer and a Gentleman. I have every faith that he will beat this. Best wishes to you and the family Barry. From a devout Blackburn Rovers fan.
