Screwdriver-wielding robber raids Colne shop

A SCREWDRIVER-wielding robber escaped with foreign currency after raiding a travel agent shop.

The man, described as 'scruffy-looking', stormed into the Altham’s branch, Albert Road, Colne, at around 4.40pm on Saturday.

He then produced a screwdriver and ordered the three female staff members to open the safe at the back of the shop, police said.

After staff handed over a quantity of foreign currency from the safe, the man ran out the door and in the direction of Colne town centre.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Haynes, from Pendle CID, said staff had been left 'shaken' but unharmed by the incident and urged witnesses to come forward.

The man is described as white, thin to medium build, aged 40 to 50, scruffy-looking with greying stubble.

He was wearing dark blue jeans, black boots, a black rain jacket, a black cap and was possibly wearing a florescent vest underneath the jacket.

He spoke with a local accent.

Call Pendle CID on 01282 472644 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
