A SUPPORT worker who juggles a full-time job with a modern apprenticeship has been presented with an award.
Sheona Parry, 22, from Bacup received the Apprentice of the Year prize last night at a ceremony organised by Lancashire Adult Learning.
She works with physically disabled adults at the Marsden Resource Centre in Nelson.
Sheona is studying for an apprenticeship in Health and Social Care and hopes it will lead to a career in care work.
She said: “I am very pleased to have won the award, it was really unexpected.
"I just want to keep moving forward as a support worker.”
Also celebrating last night was an after-school club named Community Project of the Year.
Fathers and Kids Together (FAKT), based at Marsden Community Primary School in Nelson helps dads to spend more time with their children.
Youth worker Javed Khan, who is in charge of the project, said the award recognises the hard work of all the staff involved in FAKT.
The group has been running for nearly four years and Mr Khan hopes to attract more fathers.
The ceremony was held last night at the University of Central Lancashire to recognise the hard work and commi-tment of adult students from across the county.
Peter Garrod, head of Lancashire Adult Learning, said: “Learning as an adult means balancing other responsibilities with your learning.
"I never cease to be amazed by the commitment our learners show.”
