A GOOD Samaritan who attempted to intervene in a bar-room squabble ended up in hospital with a fractured cheekbone.
Detectives said the man, in his late 20s, was out celebrating with friends at Barcode, on the corner of Hammerton Street and Hargreaves Street, around midnight on Friday.
He was walking with colleagues when he saw two men arguing with someone on the steps.
DC Mark Whitehead said the man tried to calm things down, adding: “The next thing he remembers is waking up at the bottom of the stairs being comforted by his friends.”
Police want witnesses to the unprovoked attack. The victim was treated for a fractured cheekbone at Royal Blackburn Hospital. He is now recovering at home.
“There is no indication that this man has done anything wrong and we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened,” said DC Whitehead.
Witnesses are asked to call Burnley CID on 01282 472242.
