RECKLESS youths have been slinging mud at passing cars as they travel through Hapton.
Councillors and police have been inundated with complaints after gangs started firing at vehicles as they went over the railway bridge in the village.
Parish council chairman Joan Lakeland had her own vehicle targeted and said the youngsters were putting lives at risk with their actions.
She said: “There actions are not causing much damage but it is incredibly dangerous.
“It doesn’t take much to distract drivers and if the car gets hit by a lump of mud they could easily lose concentration.”
The incidents have dried up since the snow arrived but had been a regular occurrence throughout December before hand.
Coun Lakeland said: “My own car got hit as I was travelling through the village and it can be a startling experience.
“There were also a spate of incidents on the evening of the Christmas lights switch-on on December 14.
“It is a small nuisance but could be something a lot worse and it won’t be long before there is an accident because of it.”
The attacks were brought up at the last parish council meeting where a number of councillors raised the issue and said many residents had complained.
Coun Lakeland added: "It is clearly a big problem.
“I would ask anybody whose car gets hit to report it to the police so something can be done about it.”
