THE Princess Royal, based less than half a mile from Turf Moor, is to go ahead with its name-change to The Royal Dyche - but the Burnley manager can’t be there to perform the opening ceremony.

The name change comes after Sean Dyche secured European football for the Premier League club next season.

Life-long Burnley supporter and pub landlady Justine Lorriman, 26, who has been in charge of The Princess Royal for five years, has announced the name change will be made official and the new signs will be ready to go up at the Yorkshire Street premises from noon on Friday, June 1.

The Princess Royal signs have been taken down in preparation for the new Royal Dyche sign.

However the Burnley boss, who has never visited the pub, cannot attend the unveiling.

A pub spokesman posted on Facebook: “To answer everyone’s number one question - the Gaffa will not be here to unveil.”

A club spokesman said: “Unfortunately, Sean can’t be there for the launch due to prior commitments but will try to pop in at some time in the near future and say hello.”

Clarets fan Rocky Mills will do the honours instead.
