A MAN deliberately crashed his car into a wall after being rejected by text by his partner.

Blackburn magistrates heard Stephen Mark Ormerod demolished the wall at their house and damaged a neighbour’s property.

And the court was told as well as paying for the damage Ormerod would also have to foot the bill for the damage to the lease car which was badly damaged during his rampage.

Ormerod, 52, of St Annes Street, Padiham, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a nine-month alcohol treatment requirement and 20 days' rehabilitation.

He was ordered to pay £150 compensation to his neighbour and £100 to the police officer, fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £50 victim surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and must pass an extended re-test before he gets his licence back.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said Ormerod and his partner had been in the Bridge pub when they fell out.

She went home and there was an exchange of texts during which she told him not to come home that night.

“He responded by making a direct threat to drive his car into the house and that is what he did,” said Miss Akhtar.

After the collision Ormerod ran off but the police went after him because of fears he might self harm. During his arrest spat at a police officer. Ormerod, a professional artist, had reconciled with his partner.

Peter King, defending, said his client already faced a big financial penalty for his “moment of madness.”

“He will have to pay for the wall and his neighbour’s property to be repaired and it is unlikely the insurance will pay for the damage to the car which was on lease,” said Mr King.

“He runs his own business and the consequences of being disqualified are going to be problematic.”

“This incident was sparked by a minor rejection, he was told to stay away for the night, and this was a total overreaction,” added Mr King.
