TWO Burnley villages are set to host their inaugural Scarecrow Festival at the end of April.

The Friends of Worsthorne and Hurstwood are inviting local residents to enter the free event with their most imaginative creations based on film and television over the weekend from Friday, April 28.

Louise Darcy, chairman of the group, said: “We are really excited about our first ever festival.

“Hopefully the scarecrow trail will encourage people to visit our lovely area and help the local businesses as well as raising funds for the community.”

A recent competition to design the poster for the event was won by Worsthorne Primary School pupil, Freya Fenwick, nine.

Louise said: “We loved Freya’s picture. They were all fantastic but sadly we could only choose one. Thanks to all the kids who entered.”

Worsthorne Brewing Company will be sponsoring the event.

For more information or if you wish to take part then send name, address and the name of your scarecrow display to worsthornepark1@gmail.com before March 30 in order for it to appear in the trail map; which will be available at the village shop. A prize will be awarded for the one voted the best.
