BURNLEY Council’s community clean-up campaign is set to be recommended for approval at a meeting this month.

The aim of the campaign is to tackle anti-social behaviour and raise awareness about the impact of flytipping and other environmental crime.

This comes as the work is being carried out by the council’s partnership with Kingdom Environmental Services to tackle litter and dog fouling.

Joanne Swift, the council’s head of Streetscene, said: “We know the top priority for residents is making sure their neighbourhoods are clean and tidy.

"The vast majority of people don’t drop litter or dump rubbish, and they do clean up after their dogs.

“They want to see tough action against those that don’t follow the rules and whose selfish actions spoil our borough for everyone else.

“This clean-up campaign is about promoting more community involvement and ideas to develop local initiatives on the ground.

“It will see the council working more closely with the community and ward councillors to carry out targeted clean-up work.”

The campaign will be delivered from council resources and a review will be carried out in 2018.

It will be discussed at a meeting on Monday, March 27, at the town hall at 6.30pm.
