PLANS to build 31 houses in Burnley have been given the go-ahead.

The Calico Homes development in Melrose Avenue will be a mix of two and three bedroom houses and a bungalow.

Funding for the build will come from the Homes and Communities Agency.

It is aimed at meeting the need for quality accommodation.

Work on site will take approximately twelve months and will commence next month.

Residents were able to give their opinions on the new development at an early consultation event last year.

A Calico Homes spokesman said: “The new development follows the company’s £1.6million improvements to the appearance and insulation of existing properties in the Hargher Clough area and the completion of new developments in Briercliffe, and on Pomfret Street and Blannel Street.”

Improvement works are ongoing across other Calico estates.
