PENDLE councillors are to debate the issue of cuts to school funding.
Liberal Democrat councillors David Whipp and Dorothy Lord have submitted a motion to be debated at the borough council meeting on Thursday, February 23, expressing alarm at the impact budget cuts are likely to have on the education of children.
Figures compiled by teaching unions show schools in Pendle could lose £5.75million by 2020 if a new government national funding formula is implemented.
The motion calls on the government to withdraw these proposals immediately, to reconsider its approach to funding and to ensure all school budgets are protected from real terms cuts during the rest of this Parliament up to 2020.
It also calls on all school governing bodies for their support, together with town and parish councils in Pendle.
The figures have been disputed by the government.
