A CAR smash late yesterday evening led to two drivers needing to be cut out of their vehicles.
The two-vehicle smash happened at around 10.25pm on Saturday evening at the junction of Railway Street and Netherfield Road in Nelson.
Police said a Ford S Max and a Vauxhall Zafira collided with both vehicles badly damaged.
Paramedics and the fire service were also called to the scene as both the male driver of the Ford and female driver of the Vauxhall were unable to escape the vehicles.
The road was closed for around an hour as the incident was dealt with and debris cleared.
Both drivers were transported to hospital but their injuries were reported to be minor.
A fire service spokesman, said: "Two fire engines from Nelson attended a road traffic collision on Railway Street.
"When they arrived at the scene, firefighters found that two people were trapped in a car and they released them using cutting equipment.
"Paramedics were called to the scene and they assessed the two people trapped in the car."
