IT was a busy night for emergency services across East Lancashire on Friday.

Fire crews were called to a number of fires while police dealt with incidents including an “extremely drunk and abusive” 28-year-old woman assaulting a police officer.

The woman was arrested following a police pursuit in Burnley which ended at Gannow roundabout, police say.

A spokesman said: “She assaulted an officer during the arrest and then failed to provide a sample in custody.”

A suspected burglar was also arrested after being discovered inside a property in Coniston Street, Burnley by two PCSOs.

Meanwhile three fire crews were sent to a house fire in Padiham overnight amid fears people may have been trapped inside.

However when they arrived at the property in Bright Street they discovered a small fire inside a microwave.

Nobody was injured.

Part of a kitchen was also destroyed by a fire which started in a tumble dryer in Parkwood Avenue, Burnley.

Two crews were sent and on arrival, they discovered the fire had been put out but one kitchen unit had been destroyed.

There was also smoke damage to the kitchen.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said crews were on scene for approximately 35 minutes and there were no casualties.

Finally, crews tackled a fire involving rubbish in an underground car park in Keirby Walk, Burnley.

Two crews from Burnley were sent to the fire which involved wooden shutters and some rubbish.

Electricity North West also visited the scene because of damage to electrical cables connected to nearby shops.

The incident happened at around 9pm.

There were no reports of any injuries.
