The ale was developed by head brewer Dan Casaru at Moorhouses after a series of tastings in the spring.

It is the first time that the brewery has collaborated with a band to brew a beer.

Dan Casaru, said : “What a privilege to create a beer for a band that were a massive influence on me and the music I have grown up listening to.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“I’ve tried to create a beer that represents this in its style and vibrancy, and captures some of that spirit.”

A statement on New Order’s website, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Moorhouse’s of Burnley on our first foray into the brewing business.

“Even more so that they’re celebrating their 150th anniversary, and have such a rich heritage in the North West.”

The beer is described as ‘a golden ale with hints of citrus fruit and lychee’.

It is brewed using American Cascade, Centennial and Willamette hops, with English Maris Otter malt.

‘Stray Dog’ will be available to pubs nationwide, with a bottled 500ml version also available for supermarkets and export.

The beer will be available exclusively in Mitchells & Butlers pubs from August Bank Holiday weekend, ahead of national availability in September.

The beer will be launched officially at a special New Order-themed evening at The Sawyer’s Arms in Manchester on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 28 from 7pm, with DJs and competitions to win special merchandise.

Highly influential for almost 40 years New Order have had global success with hits such as Blue Monday, True Faith and England’s World Cup song in 1990, World In Motion.
