A FASHION firm in Burnley has predicted its sales will hit new heights this year.

Boohoo, which has seen a growing presence on the Heasandford industrial estate, has anticipated that sales for the year will go beyond expectations with increased sales growth of between 28 and 33 per cent.

The company announced it had performed well in the first five months of the year and the start of this month had been ‘encouraging’.

A spokesman for Boohoo said: “The company has performed well during the first five months of the year and the start of August has been encouraging.

“Demand has been robust and sales momentum in the first quarter has continued into the second quarter.

“Sell through of seasonal stock has been strong through the spring and summer season.

“Consequently the board now anticipates that results for the current year will be above expectations.

“The board continues to be positive about the trading environment for Boohoo.”

The fashion internet giant, set up in 2006, expanded in Burnley last November when it took over the former Ultra-Finishing premises.

And in January the company announced that sales had risen by a half to almost £74million in the four months ending December 31, 2015.

Cllr Mark Townsend, leader of Burnley Council, said he was delighted to hear that the business was doing well.

He said: “I am so pleased to hear that a company that employs Burnley people is excelling.

“It means that the people that are working there at least have some security.

“We have an advanced manufacturing sector in the town but it is good to hear that other industries are also thriving.

“We are really getting a very diverse economy in Burnley and that is extremely positive.”

Since its creation the brand, which sells clothes online for the 16 to 25 market, has become one of the fastest growing international retailers. It aims to combine ‘cutting-edge design with affordability.
