BANDS and singers from Burnley are being given a chance to perform at one of the town’s major venues later this month at a new music show.

The free-to-attend event is being organised by two young leisure workers who have secured Burnley Mechanics as a venue.

The Live Lounge will take place in the front room at the Mechanics on Friday, July 22, from 7.15pm to 11.30pm.

It will be hosting Burnley’s best up-and-coming bands and musicians including Mel Sheard, Emily Herbert, IAMU.D, Bert Mathewson, MeLeon, the Swamp Donkeys and Critical Reaction.

The event has been organised by two apprentices currently based at Burnley Leisure as part of a second stage of their gold Arts Award qualification.

They want to provide a regular showcase for the area’s musicians.

Mathew Robinson and Angus Allan, who joined the leisure trust last year, have been working closely with the local music artists to make the event happen.

If the inaugural event is a success, the Live Lounge could become a regular fixture in the Mechanic’s calendar giving a more prominent platform for local artists.

Mr Robinson said: “This is the first of hopefully many events that will take all that’s good about Burnley’s music scene and put it right in the spotlight.

“Through everyone’s collaborative effort, local musicians and bands are coming together for what will be an evening of purely local music at one of Burnley’s best established venues, Burnley Mechanics,” he went on to say.

“As well as providing us with invaluable experience of organising events, the Live Lounge gives the newer upcoming musicians a chance to put themselves on a bigger platform and showcase their fantastic talent.”

The event is for people aged 16 and over, unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
