AN artisan micro-distillery in Burnley has won a pivotal listing in fine-food supermarket Booths.

Inspired by Spain’s culture of gin perfectionism, Batch Brew launched in 2014, and has already gained regional and international recognition, winning a Silver Medal at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Now listed in every Booths store, the distillery celebrated its launch with a day of gin tastings, sharing tips, recipes and insights into what makes Batch exceptional.

Founder Phil Whitwell said: “Batch Premium Gin is handcrafted using 12 botanicals and every bottle is individually numbered and signed.

“We’re delighted to have the support of an influential retailer like Booths, and look forward to introducing more of their customers to our delicious gin.

“We had lots of fun meeting Booths’ exceptionally knowledgeable staff in Barrowford and witnessing their passion for Batch.”

In September 2015 the company announced that it was set to increase production and distribution of its handcrafted Batch Premium Gin thanks to a grant from the Lancashire Business Growth Fund.

Batch Brew was the second Burnley business to benefit from the £8 million Lancashire Business Growth Fund (LBGF) pot, which was launched to help businesses across Lancashire with business growth projects and is supported by the Regional Growth Fund.

Batch was awarded a LBGF grant of £10,196 which – alongside its own capital investment – has led to the purchase, installation and commissioning of its purpose-built distillery facility at its Burnley premises, which includes a new tanking system, distillery equipment and metal counters.

Booths Spirits Buyer Pete Newton said “Booths customers love a good gin, and Batch Brew is no exception.

“Supporting brilliant local producers is central to Booths and we’re looking forward to helping Batch Brew flourish.”

In July last year the micro-distillery launched a new Burnley cocktail.

The drink is a slug of gin generously mixed with the liqueur Bénédictine, known as ‘Benny’, popular across East Lancashire and on sale at Turf Moor.

Batch Brew brewed craft ales in Winchester before moving to Burnley in January 2015 to create its own gin.
