A LUXURY spa in Burnley has submitted plans for an 80-bed hotel which is set to create 70 jobs.

Crow Wood, which at the moment primarily caters for day visitors to its spa, restaurant and leisure facilities wants to build a four star hotel.

The business only offers three bedrooms and one apartment for overnight stays.

The company hopes if the hotel is built it will provide a boost to tourism in the Burnley area and benefit the wider economy.

It the application lodged recently with Burnley Council, a planning document, states: "To support and grow the existing Crow Wood business from a local, day visit destination to a regional and national destination offering overnight and short-stay breaks, four-star standard hotel is accommodation is now needed and proposed at the site.

"An 80 bed, four-star standard hotel has been identified as the best way of achieving this.

"Without this expansion in on-site accommodation the future growth of Crow Wood will be limited."

The hotel would have 72 double or twin rooms and five suites.

It would also have a 250 seat function suite, complete with a marriage chapel, capable of hosting weddings and other functions, a bar and restaurant and car parking.

The report, adds: "The addition of 70 new jobs will offer higher level opportunities for local people, and open up opportunities to work with local

schools and colleges.

"The creation of the hotel will inject a £10 million capital investment into the local economy."

The existing Bartram's Restaurant would provide a 'destination' restaurant for those staying at the hotel.

The site was originally opened in 2001 when the the former 40-hectare dairy farm, Crow Wood House Farm was transformed into a £7.6 million leisure club and equestrian centre.

Presently, the business employs 160 people.

In the last four years, owner Andrew Brown has invested a further £7m at the

site to create additional indoor and outdoor equestrian arenas and the Woodland Spa.

In August 2011 four outdoor tennis courts were replaced by football pitches with the creation of Soccer Burnley with five 5-aside pitches and two 7-aside pitches.

It is used as a base for local team coaching, football tournaments as well as offering football parties.
