HE’s certainly had a vintage year on the cricket pitch and now Burnley’s James Anderson has turned his hand to producing wine.

Anderson, who became became England’s highest test wicket-taker earlier this year, has launched his own wine label as he prepares for his future off the field.

The 33-year-old seamer and former St Theodore’s pupil, has developed a passion for wine and has brought out a collection of three wines.

Inspired by family holidays to the South of France, the project took him to the Languedoc region, where he blended three wines in conjunction with the Robert Vic family vineyard in Beziers.

The labels contain numbers to relate to memorable moments from his cricket career, with the long term plan to add to these wines as his career progresses.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Number 11 is the Reserve Blanc, referring to the position he’s played most at for England.

It is a blend of Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier.

Fifty four is the Reserve Rosé, a blend of Cinsault and Grenache with strawberry notes.

Eighty one, the Reserve Rouge, refers to his highest score for England against India in 2014.

Anderson said: “I’ve got something to focus on other than cricket and this is an outlet to try and take my mind off it.

“The more involved I’ve become the more passionate I’ve become about it.”

The wines retail at £9.95 a bottle.
