CHANGES to the waste collection day for many homes in Burnley are set to come into force from Monday.

Around three out of four homes in the borough will be affected.

However, the frequency of collections and the way rubbish is collected will not change. Residents will still have their recyclable materials collected one week; and non-recyclable rubbish the next. Recyclable materials will continue to be collected as now; glass, cans and plastics in blue boxes or bags, and paper and card in white sacks.

The new system will see garden waste collections (brown bin) always carried out on the Monday of recycling week. Household waste collections will be carried out Tuesday-Friday.

Cllr Tony Harrison, executive member for community services, said: “Collection day may change for residents – it’s just a matter of getting used to the new day.

“Apart from that things remain the same – recycling materials collected one week and non-recycling household waste the next. The service remains the same.The council has worked with our new waste contractor Urbaser to redesign the waste collection rounds to make them more efficient.”
