AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by police into several arson attacks in Burnley over the weekend.

Firefighters attended three different incidents on Clever Street at 4am on Saturday.

Although on this occasion it was signs and a charity clothes collection bin set alight, acting crew manager at Burnley fire station Simon Wright has warned the arsonists that they are putting lives at risk.

Mr Wright said: “We were there in total for half an hour, putting them out, investigating and taking photographs. If there was something more serious then we wouldn’t have been able to get to it and that would have put lives at risk. By setting the bin on fire they have also cost the charity money.”

Mr Wright said they suspected teenagers were involved, but said police were investigating.
