POLICE are investigating a series of arson attacks in Burnley this morning.

Firefighters had to attend three different incidents on Clever Street at 4am.

And although on this occasion it was signs and a charity clothes collection bin set alight, acting crew manager at Burnley fire station Simon Wright has warned the arsonists responsible they are putting lives at risk.

Mr Wright said: "We were there in total for half an hour, putting them out, investigating and taking photographs. If there was something more serious then we wouldn't have been able to get to it and that would have put lives at risk. By setting the bin on fire they have also cost the charity money.

"We have had a couple in the area over the last few weeks where people have been setting fire to for sale signs, It can potentially spread to a property and be something far more serious. People might think it's funny going down the street and setting fires to things but they're putting lives at risk."

Mr Wright said they suspected teenagers were involved, but said police were investigating this morning.
