MORE than 150 new houses are set to be built in Burnley as a result to changes to development agreements.

The council’s executive will meet next Tuesday to rubber stamp the changes that will enable more new homes to be built in Burnley Wood and South West Burnley.

Both areas have been the subject of major regeneration work, including building new houses, in recent years.

In South West Burnley the council is now looking to progress phases three and four of the development plan for the area.

That agreement would lead to 99 new houses being built in South West Burnley, with work expected to start on site by the end of next month and the development completed by early 2018.

In Burnley Wood the council is on to phase three of the development plan.

That would see 59 new houses being built in the area, with work also expected to start on site by the end of next month. The development in Burnley Wood should be completed by the end of next year.

Paul Gatrell, the council’s head of housing and development control, said the new houses would benefit both areas, attracting new people to move into Burnley Wood and South West Burnley, and providing a better standard of homes for current residents to move into.

He said: “The proposed changes will enable the further development of both areas with new homes.

“This will encourage new people to move into these communities and provide improved housing choice for existing residents.”

As with similar previous reports that contain information relating to the financial or business affairs of a third party, the reports will be discussed in private when the executive meets on April 28, from 6.30pm at Burnley Town Hall.
