They also chatted to motorists about their speed in Culshaw Street, Brunshaw Avenue, and Towneley Holmes Road on Thursday.

A total of 23 drivers were spoken to.

A police spokesman said: “Positive awareness was raised with regards to the 20mph speed limit.”

Luke Mason, 13, was trapped under a car after being hit while on his way home at about 7.50am on February 11.

Speed is not believed to have played a part in the incident, and there is no suggestion the driver of the blue Mazda 3 hatchback was at fault.

Linda Robinson, from The Full Monty Sandwich Bar, in Lyndhurst Road, helped reassure Luke following the accident, while holding a scarf on his head injuries.

She said: “We need something doing to this road. I have been here 15 years and it’s dangerous.”

And leader of Burnley Council, Mark Townsend, said: “Lyndhurst Road is extremely busy.

“There have been some difficulties in the past, but we need to look at it again.”

Councillor John Fifield, whose Bank Hill ward covers Lyndhurst Road, said: “It really needs traffic wardens to go up there.”

Luke, a Blessed Trinity student, is still recovering in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital after breaking his skull and his arm in the accident.

But his mum Sarah told the Lancashire Telegraph Luke is now ‘more stable’.
