STRICKEN teenager Luke Mason remains unconscious but is ‘stable’, his family revealed.

However, the 13-year-old’s aunt, Shelley Halliwell, said his condition could still change ‘at any time’.

She said: “Luke is finally off ICU – intensive care unit – but is still unconscious. We are happy to say at the minute he is stable, we also understand that can change at any second, so we just have to take it day by day, and also that it could be a long time until he wakes up.

“We just have to support him the best we can.”

Luke, a Blessed Trinity student, collided with a car while crossing Lyndhurst Road in Burnley on Wednesday, February 11.

He was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool with a broken skull.

He is The youngster, the oldest of five children to mum Sarah and dad Ben, and was left trapped under a blue Mazda just yards from his home in Mitella Street at around 7.50am, after popping to the local shop to buy breakfast cereal.

Ben, 31, has been keeping Luke’s friends up-to-date on his Facebook page.

The latest post said: “He is more stable now but it’s not all over with yet and he is still poorly.”

The family have been warned by doctors that Luke will be left disabled if he survives, 29-year-old aunt Katie Kirby said.

An online fundraising page set up to help the family with travelling expenses to and from Merseyside, where they have kept a bedside vigil since Luke’s accident, has topped £600. Around 50 people have donated in six days.

Kind-hearted Rebecca Shaw, who gave £5, said: “This donation is from my nine-year-old son, who has been very sad to hear of Luke’s plight and wanted to help.

“He often goes to the shops on the same road for his dad.

“We hope Luke makes a speedy recovery.”
