LUKE Mason remained in a critical condition yesterday.

The 13-year-old broke his skull after being hit by a car crossing Lyndhurst Road in Burnley last week.

His aunt, Katie Kirby, 29, had said doctors were hoping to take the teen off sedatives.

But his mum, Sarah, said the Blessed Trinity student was still on life support and was being kept sedated by doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

She said: “There’s been no change really. We just want to be able to sort him out.”

Luke suffered serious head injuries after popping to a nearby shop to buy cereal.

He is not believed to have regained consciousness since the collision, at around 7.50am on Wednesday, which left him trapped under a blue Mazda 3 just yards from his home in Mitella Street.

Luke’s dad, Burnley FC fan Ben, has been keeping friends and family updated through Facebook.

Yesterday morning, he wrote: “I am just letting all his school friends know he is still very poorly.”

The 31-year-old also voiced the family’s appreciation at the ‘overwhelming’ support.

Adding: “We go to see him everyday and I would like to show my thanks for all the prayers and lovely messages from you all.

“Me and his mum [Sarah] do appreciate it and once again, thank you very much for your support.

“It’s very overwhelming and touching.”

Police yesterday said their investigation into the crash remained ongoing.
