TWO men have been arrested following a brawl, at a Burnley gym, that spilled out on to the street.

A 41-year-old and a 30-year-old, both from the town, were arrested yesterday after police were called to the scene in Kingsway having received a report form a passer-by just after noon.

The arrested men were banned from being members at the budget gym, Xercise4Less.

The gym’s manager, Matt Tyler, said: “This was dealt with promptly and efficiently and is not something that we tolerate on the premises. No damage was done to the building or any of the equipment at the gym.

“I believe that the altercation started inside the gym because of a disagreement and then escalated off the premises. The men’s membership will be revoked. This is the first time that anything like this has happened since I came to the gym in September last year.

“This is not something that we tolerate and steps will be taken to make sure that this never happens again.”

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesman said: “We were called just after midday on Monday after receiving a report of an altercation between two men outside Xercise4Less in Kingsway.

“Two men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody.”

The gym confirmed that no equipment was damaged as a result of the fight and that an investigation will start into the cause of the incident.

The gym, which opened its doors in Burnley in April last year, has 5,000 members and employs around 50 members of staff.

When it opened it became the 19th gym of the Xercise4Less chain. It has more than 400 pieces of fitness equipment.
