A REVELLER had his jaw broken after being punched in the face outside a Burnley pub.

Detectives investigating the unprovoked attack appealed for the public’s help to trace a man they want to speak to — despite only revealing the three-week-old assault yesterday.

The 22-year-old victim from Burnley was attacked by a man on New Year’s Day after an argument spilled out into the street outside the Turf Hotel pub.

Police believe a separate fight between two women just minutes before the attack, at around 11pm in Yorkshire Street, could be linked.

A student, also 22, who tried to stop the fight was assaulted by another man. He suffered a fractured eye socket.

A 30-year-old Burnley man was arrested five days later on suspicion of wounding with intent and was bailed until Wednesday, March 11.

DC April Butcher, from Burnley CID, said: “This was a vicious assault that left the victim with a serious injury, from which he is still recovering.

“I urge anyone who recognises the man in the image or knows anything at all about this assault and also a separate fight involving two women that took place on Yorkshire Street shortly before this incident, to get in touch. We believe these incidents could be linked.”
