The carnival, now in its third year, will take place at venues throughout the borough in September.

Organisers said they expect the rally to be a big crowd-pleaser and they expect 70 Volkswagens to set up camp at Rawtenstall’s Marl Pits Leisure Centre.

Barry Hyde, one of the festival’s co-ordinators, said: “The Rally In The Valley is now officially part of the Rossendale 60’s Festival. The event offers lots of far out fun and entertainment, fabulous live bands and a groovy 60s fancy dress on Saturday night.

“Marl Pits is ideally located to experience the many other events that make up the Rossendale 60s Festival. The event is attracting a great deal of interest.”

The Rally In The Valley will be put on in conjunction with Wigan-based events specialist Plan The Occasion.

Mr Hyde, from Bacup, said: “Year on year the event is growing but we are always on the look out for more contributions and events.

“We are still not finished so other kinds of entertainment would be most welcome.”

The festival, which will take place from September 11 to September 13, has also confirmed that Haslingden Cricket Club will host its Scootfest exhibition again after 350 vehicles turned up last year.

Rosso, Rossendale’s bus provider, will run a Magical Mystery Tour and stallholders in Rawtenstall, Bacup and Haslingden markets are also expected be involved.
