FOUR students had to be rescued from a hotel lift in Burnley in the early hours of Sunday after it became stuck between floors.

The quartet were trapped inside a lift at the former Keirby Hotel, now known as the Crown Hotel, in Keirby Walk, which houses undergraduates from the University College of Football Business.

Firefighters from Burnley station were alerted at around 12.40am after the lift mechanism malfunctioned.

Firefighter Simon Wright said: “There were no maintenance staff on site so they called for us.

“We had to isolate the lift, while talking to them to ensure they were okay and kept themselves inside the car.

“Then we had to access the lift room and manually wind the lift up to the next floor, where the students could be released.”

The four remained in good spirits throughout.
