A LIFE changing piece of equipment has been bought for two young Burnley brothers with a chronic condition after a community fundraiser.

Parents who run Sycamore United junior football team took it upon themselves to raise money for a special cystic fibrosis vest for one of their players.

The special top has now been presented to Noah McGibbon, nine, who plays for the Burnley team, and his brother Jayden, four, who both suffer from the condition.

The airway clearance physio vest cost £7,300, and provides vibrations to the chest wall, reducing the need for intensive and exhausting daily physiotherapy.

Families and players have spent the best part of a year raising money, by organising various events from bucket collections to supermarket bag-packing drives, to sponsored walks, head shaves and sky dives.

The boys’ mother, Lisa McGibbon, of Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, said she was very touched by the efforts the club had made.

She said: “We couldn’t have done it without them, they got it all started, they set the ball rolling, and I’d just like to thank Kieron, Louise and Dave.

“They just took it upon themselves to raise the money, and without Sycamore it wouldn’t have been possible.

“We also want to thank the boy’s school, Brunshaw Primary for raising £700, and all the business who got involved, and everyone who helped.

“There were women who did sponsored runs, a lady who shaved her head, and even two little girls who were selling loom bands at school.”

The physio vest dramatically reduces the amount of time the youngsters need to undergo physiotherapy, which can be gruelling.

“We raised enough for the vest and warranty, and had money left to give to another family who are raising money for a physio vest, said Lisa.

“Before, it was all too much, but now it’s so much better, the pyhsio is done in half the time.”

Britain’s Got Talent star Hollie Steel gave the fundraising campaign a boost by appearing at a fundraiser at The Railway Club, in Rosegrove.

The campaign has also seen support from football clubs including Manchester City, Arsenal, and Accrington Stanley.
