FIRE chiefs in Rawtenstall have warned people not to start bonfires in public after they had to deal with a blaze on an industrial estate.

Two crews spent half-an-hour putting out a blaze at Hugh Business Park, off Bacup Road, Waterfoot, on Thursday night.

Crew manager Steve Morley said the bonfire contained ‘what looked like domestic waste’.

He said: “It was in very close proximity to industrial units. Clearly people should never be setting fire to things in public but I would just say to people that it is especially dangerous near buildings which could be occupied and represent people’s livelihoods.”
