A RAMSBOTTOM man has released a book telling the story of tragic figure skater John Curry.

Bill Jones, who lived in the town for 30 years, will see his book, Alone – The Triumph and Tragedy of John Curry, published by Bloomsbury.

It chronicles the life of the troubled skater, who died of AIDS in 1994, after previously winning the Olympic, World and European figure skating titles within two months in 1976. His life after sport was plagued with difficulties, and the former BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner died virtually penniless and living in his mother’s bungalow in Warwickshire. Mr Jones’ previous book, The Ghost Runner, won The Times Best New Writer 2012 award and was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book awards.
