A HORSE sanctuary has revised a bid to overhaul its Burnley base.

The Horses and Ponies Protection Association (HAPPA) had secured full planning permission for new buildings at its Shores Hey Farm headquarters in Halfax Road, Briercliffe, in February.

The popular animal rescue centre has now had a resubmitted plan approved in which there are alterations to the design of the proposed buildings and the size of the extension to the indoor arena has been reduced.

Also approved is a new access track to improve health and safety by reducing vehicle movements Planning officers at Burnley Council have approved the changes as they do not raise any new planning issues.

Kay Brandist, chief officer at HAPPA, said: “We had originally planned to build in timber, but a grant from Pets at Home has enabled us to redesign some of the buildings in blockwork.

“There was also no original provision for an access road, this change will enable us to get vehicles to our isolation unit more safely.”

The new buildings include a visitor centre, an isolation unit, and a crew barn.
