Lancashire Telegraph: Compensation order for Burnley girl in attack on police Compensation order for Burnley girl in attack on police

A TEENAGE girl who attacked a police officer and a detention officer on Christmas Day after a drinking session must pay them compensation.

Burnley magistrates heard Codie-Lee Gallagher, 18, scratched both victims in the face and kicked the detention officer in the chest and leg.

Gallagher was originally offered a conditional caution for the outburst if she paid £100 to each of the two officers.

But she ended up in court after she had lost her job and was unable to come up with the money, the court heard.

Gallagher, of Constable Avenue, Burnley, admitted assaulting both officers and was told to pay a £200 compensation order.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said a police officer was passing the Rose and Crown pub on Manchester Road when Gallagher was seen outside shouting at someone. She appeared drunk, was abusive and was arrested and taken to Burnley Police Station.

She was screaming incoherently on arrival at the police station. A female civilian detention officer was drafted in but was kicked in the police vehicle. The police officer was also scratched by the defendant and bled quite heavily.

Rachel Garnett, defending, said Gallager was apologetic when she woke up in a cell and was told by police what she had done.
