A CREW of firefighters from Ramsbottom have been recognised for their demonstrations with school children of how they use water safety equipment during rescues.

Red Watch Ramsbottom were presented with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's first two WOW! Awards for their sessions with 11th Ramsbottom Brownies and Hazlehurst Primary School, in Geoffrey Street.

Lynn Clark, Pack Leader at 11th Ramsbottom Brownies, said: "Red Watch did a magnificent job of explaining what they do and talking about water safety with the Brownies, particularly Pete Bradley.

"Then all the Watch got involved in helping the Brownies throw rescue lines and demonstrating various pieces of equipment.

"The Brownies had a great time and we would like to thank Red Watch for going above and beyond the call of duty in preparing for our visit and staying longer than their shift to ensure our visit was a success."

Natalie Lawton, of Hazlehurst Primary School, said: "Red Watch at Ramsbottom provided a really informative and engaging presentation about water safety.

“Our children were really engaged and learned a lot."

The awards were presented to the crew by Bury Borough Manager, Pete Riley, and Derek Williams, CEO of WOW! Ltd.
