THIS is the first look inside the new multi-million pound three-storey health centre which dominates Colne town centre’s skyline.

Several GP surgeries and a range of community services have been pencilled in for the 2,700 square metre site, off Craddock Road, on the site of the former Kwik Save supermarket.

The development completes a civic ‘square in Colne, with the town’s police station, fire station, bus station, market and shopping precinct only a stone’s throw away.

An NHS Property Services spokesman said: “It will house GP and community services in accommodation that is fit for purpose, modern and flexible over three floors.

“An increase in the number of clinical rooms means an improvement in service delivery and an opportunity for more services to be delivered closer to home. Services including a treatment room, podiatry and counselling services will all transfer from the current centre.

“The centre has a controlled car park with dedicated disabled, cycle and motorcycle provision.”

Building work by the Eric Wright Group officially began in January 2013 and the property will be part of the newly-created NHS organisation’s portfolio.

The health centre was constructed as part of a £10.3million initiative which also included similar facilities pledged for Great Harwood and Clitheroe.

No date has yet been confirmed by officials from NHS England for when GP surgeries will make the switch to the new facility from the current centre in Market Street, with final contract details still said to be under negotiation.

No doubt it will be a good asset for the people of Colne. A modern building with modern facilities and free from MRSA bugs and the like. It is certainly uncontaminated by patients and doctors!

Surely somebody has cocked up somewhere along the line. It should have been opened weeks ago but stands empty while doctors and administrators squabble in the car park. Come on children, get your acts together. I know it was only several years in the planning but you should have had it sorted by now. Just play nice will you.

the firm that built it has gone bust so the N.H.S. government

this is just greed and black mail in my option and should stop now
we have waited year for this centre when we got the money years ago
it was taken for something to be do in Burnley what do not know yet

if they leave it too long it will cost more to put it right by this I mean

2 the damp in the walls
3 the big light bills
4 someone will have to pay for all this to be put right
