FOUR candidates will contest a Pendle Borough Council by-election tomorrow.

Noel McEvoy has been nominated by the Conservatives, Robert Oliver for Labour, Darren Reynolds for the Liberal Democrats and Mick Waddington for the UK Independence Party, in the Blacko and Higherford poll.

The by-election was prompted following the disqualification of Coun Shelagh Derwent, who had to step down after being unable to attend a council meeting for six months.

She held the seat with a 435-vote majority when the ward was last up for grabs at the 2011 borough elections.
