Rossendale and Darwen MP welcomes childcare cash move
3:01pm Wednesday 19th March 2014 in News
ROSSENDALE and Darwen Tory MP Jake Berry said a new childcare package unveiled by Prime Minister David Cameron yesterday will help 380,000 families in the North West.
The government’s new Tax-Free Childcare scheme will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 annually per child after the next General Election if the Conservatives are in government.
Applications for the grant, worth up to £2,000 a year for each child, would be made online.
It will also cover 85 per cent of childcare costs for around 300,000 families receiving Universal Credit.
Mr Berry said: “For too long it has been too difficult for many families to find good, affordable childcare.
“This announcement is great news for children and families here in Rossendale and Darwen.”
Mr Cameron said: “Tax-free childcare is an important part of our long-term economic plan.
“It will help millions of hard-pressed families with their childcare costs and provide financial security.”
