A GRANDMOTHER repeatedly hit her husband over the head after making unkind comments about his ‘dying dad’, a court heard.
Burnley magistrates were told Anita Lea Stott, 44, struck Brian Stott twice during a drinking session at home and then hit him again, leaving him bleeding from a cut.
Stott, of Parliament Street, Burnley, admitted assault by beating on February 24 and was given a 12-month conditional discharge. She must pay a £15 victim surcharge.
Alex Mann, prosecuting, said Mr Stott, her husband of 22 years, did not support the prosecution.
The couple, who had a relatively happy marriage, had been ‘happily drinking’ in the evening with a friend.
The defendant suddenly made unkind comments about her husband’s father, telling him: ‘Your dad’s dying. So what ?’ The victim called her a name and Stott stood in front of him and hit him on the head.
Stott then knocked a glass off a table, causing it to smash, the friend started clean up and calm the situation and the defendant struck her husband a third time.
Mr Stott called the police to prevent further assault. The defendant had no previous convictions.
Mark Williams, for Stott, said her arrest, being held in the cells and appearing in court had been a harrowing experience for her.
